Peri: No Coalition Without Sharing the Burden

Speaking with Israel Radio’s Reshet Bet on Thursday morning 13 Shevat 5773, MK-elect (Yesh Atid) Yaakov Peri stated “one thing is for certain. We will not be entering into any coalition government that does not place the ‘sharing the burden’ issue atop its agenda”.

Peri, a former ISA (Israel Security Agency – Shin Bet) director added resumption of talks with the PA (Palestinian Authority) is also a major component, “not just returning, but doing so seriously” he added.”

Also speaking to Reshet Bet Yisrael Beitenu leader MK Avigdor Lieberman stated that yes, Israel wishes to negotiate with the PA but as we have seen in the past, very generous offers made by various Israeli leaders have been rejected by the PA (Palestinian Authority). The former foreign minister added that negotiating must be a two way street and for now, we have seen Israel doing a great deal of giving while seeing nothing in return from the PA.

When asked if Shas will be a coalition partner, Peri stated it is quite likely that Shas will not be a coalition member. Regarding Bayit HaYehudi, Peri stated there is a better chance of seeing Bennett’s party on board since its platform is more in line with the other major partners than the chareidi parties.

When asked if Yair Lapid will ask to become foreign minister, Peri stated “No for two reasons. For one thing he would not get it and for another, he lacks the experience.”

When asked about Lapid serving as defense minister, he stated once again Lapid lacks the experience, explaining this post must be someone with a wealth of experience in the field, hinting he is qualified as a former Shin Bet director.

Well, then for heaven’s sake why is that guy in the knesset to begin with? And why did so many Israeli’s vote for him?

  2. Are you kidding me? Many knesset members are in the knesset but lack the necessary experience to be foreign or defense minister. do you think Deri, Yishai, Litzman, Gafni, Porush or any of the others are even remotely capable of being in these positions?? they are members of knesset because they are trying to represent their constituents, not because they could even care less about representing the state of Israel to the world. they want money for their mosdos and avreichim, they don’t care about Israel’s safety or defense.
