Flu Claims Another Life in Israel


A 51-year-old woman became the latest fatality in Eretz Yisrael of the flu. She was niftar on Friday, 21 Shevat 5773, apparently the result of cardiac complications stemming from her overall weakened state.

The women had a high fever, aches and pains and shortness of breath for two days. She was treated in a hospital emergency room and released. She later collapsed and transported to Meir Hospital in Kfar Saba, listed in serious condition.

Dr. Michal Hubris is quoted by the daily Yisrael Hayom as explaining despite intensive efforts following her arrival, she died a number of hours later. Hubris heads the hospitals infectious diseases unit, stating the infection that killed her led to myocardial complications.

She explained the flu hits the young as well as the older population, calling on Israelis to get vaccinated. That said, most HMOs have run out of vaccinations. Leumit report it still has 9,000 vaccines available.
