NYC Health Dept. Wants NYPD Help In Tracking Mentally Ill

City health officials are looking to the police for help in tracking down mentally ill people they believe could be a threat to their fellow New Yorkers. This comes after several recent subway deaths that allegedly involved mentally ill attackers.

A city Health Department spokesperson said if the patients do not receive consistent treatment, they could pose a risk to themselves or others.

Naeem Davis has been linked to one of the high-profile subway deaths.

He’s accused of pushing a man to the tracks in December and has reportedly said that he was bi-polar but not on medication.

In another incident the same month, Erika Menendez is charged with pushing and killing a man in Queens.

She too has had a history of mental health problems, but has been ruled fit to stand trial.
