Far Rockaway: Goldfeder Demands NYPD to Expedite Installation of Security Cameras in Rockaway

cctvAssemblyman Phil Goldfeder (D-Rockaway) recently sent a letter to NYPD Commissioner Raymond Kelly asking him to expedite the installation of six Argus Security Cameras between the 100th and 101st Precincts across Rockaway. The cameras would act to provide much needed additional security, deter potential criminal behavior, and help officers keep Rockaway communities safe in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

“The funding is in place and there should be no more excuses,” said Assemblyman Phil Goldfeder. “I am urging the NYPD to expedite this process and cut through some thick bureaucratic red tape to help officers solve crimes quickly and protect our families in Rockaway.”
In 2010, $300,000 was allocated from the state to purchase and install the new security cameras, however the process has been delayed for years, despite all necessary paperwork being submitted. Currently, the installation is being held up by the legal department of the NYPD Grants Unit, noted Goldfeder.

“We want our cameras, enough is enough!” said Danny Ruscillo Jr., President of the 100th Precinct Community Council. “This has been ongoing, since October 2010 and our community is tired of talking about it and not getting anywhere.”

“I commend our commanding officers, Captain Kevin Maloney of the 101st Precinct and our new Captain Craig Adelman of the 100th Precinct for their courageous work to keep our neighborhoods safe,” said Assemblyman Phil Goldfeder. “Now is the time to provide our precincts all the tools and resources necessary to help them effectively protect our streets and I am calling on the NYPD to purchase and install theses security cameras immediately.”

  1. I don’t understand why the government doesn’t just fund citizens patrols. We all know that the Rockaway Citizens Safety Patrol worked very closely with PD in the aftermath of Sandy and prevent looting throughout our community. .
I even heard that they had 3 arrest in the past month.

Maybe the solution to our safety needs in Far Rockaway is to fund the RCSP.
