NYC: Winter Crime Stats Show Dip In City Shootings, Murders


nypdaIt was a safe winter around the city with shootings and murders down sharply over the first quarter of the year, according to figures released by the city’s police department. Shootings dropped by almost a quarter and murders were down roughly a third from January through March, compared to the same period last year.

The city saw 212 shootings from January 1 through March 31, compared with 278 over the same stretch in 2012.

There were 66 murders versus 94 last year.

Some Brooklyn neighborhoods had a large concentration of shootings.

East Flatbush and Brownsville had 13 shootings while Bedford-Stuyvesant had 12.

Shootings in the Bronx are down a third.

None of the precincts in the borough had more than seven shootings.
