Montreal: Family Seeks Marrow Donor To Save Four-Year-Old Daughter

jaydenLike most four-and-a-half year olds Jayden Roll colors and plays with her friends, however in February she was diagnosed with a life-threatening blood disease, leaving her family scrambling to find a bone marrow donor.

The Roll family is now turning to the public for help.

In February, her parents noticed something was wrong.

She was diagnosed with a rare blood disease, Myelodysplastic Syndrome or MDS. Her doctors predict that it will most likely progress into acute myelogenos leukemia, or AML, at which point she will need to undergo chemotherapy and, ultimately, depend on a marrow transplant to survive, said Rabbi Menachem Posner, a friend of the family.

Her bone marrow was failing and now she is in desperate need of a transplant. No one in her family is a match, including her younger brothers.

She needs blood transfusions every two weeks to stay alive.

In order for Jayden to survive, a stem cell donor must be found in the coming weeks. Currently, she has no match in the Bone Marrow Registry. Her best chance at finding a match is within the ashkenzi Jewish population. The family is reaching far and wide to try to find her a match.

Her name for Tehillim is: Gita bat Sheva

“The Gift of Life” foundation will operate a drive next week at the 92nd Street Y in Manhattn to try to find her a match.
