Personal Data Briefly Exposed At NYC Bike Share

bikenycOperators of New York City’s bike-sharing program say a software glitch accidentally revealed personal information of more than 1,000 of its account holders.

The Wall Street Journal says the program notified affected members of the problem in a letter July 19. The security breach occurred on April 15.

The problem was discovered and corrected at the end of May.

A spokesman for the city Department of Transportation says nearly 1,200 customers were affected.

The Journal says he didn’t explain the delay between the discovery of the data breach and notification of affected customers.

Spokesman Seth Solomonow said there was no evidence any personal information “was maliciously accessed or misused.”
