Tiveria Mayor Kobi Denied Additional Police Protection – READ WHY

Tiveria Mayor Ron Kobi requested additional police protection from Israel Police. That request has been denied. According to police, a probe intended to evaluate his security situation revealed that he is threatened only as a result of his provocative actions against others, and therefore, a request for additional security is not justified. Kobi then turned to the Interior Ministry and he was told that he has received everything he is entitled to under the law.

It is no secret that Kobi has done a great deal to anger the chareidi community. One such example would be that the day after his request for additional security was denied, he had the security guard for a chareidi school in the city removed. He did so immediately, without any warning, leaving the children at higher risk of harm coming to them simply because they are chareidi, the Yisrael Hayom newspaper reported.

Kobi decided that he will use the funding to for security in the chareidi school to increase his security detail on his own, since both Israel Police and the Interior Ministry denied his request, Yisrael Hayom details.

When school principal Gil Nachmani contacted the Tiveria security officer, and finally the mayor’s office, Kobi dared to attempt to justify the removal of the guard, explaining that the children in the chareidi school regularly taunted the guard and this is why he was removed. Nachmani explains there is no basis for the mayor’s accusations, which are not based in reality.

Yisrael Hayom attempted to get the mayor to comment, but he did not. The Education Ministry, which is responsible for security in schools, told Yisrael Hayom the Public Security Ministry is the address. The Public Security Ministry responded that responsibility for the school’s security, as well as the mayor’s security detail, fall under the jurisdiction of Israel Police. Israel Police has not commented in time for publication of the article.
