Rockland: Journal News Suburbs Cutting 26 Positions

tjnThe company that publishes The Journal News in the New York suburbs has cut 26 positions, including 17 from its newsroom.

The Journal News Media Group, part of Gannett Co., says the cuts will reduce its employment roll to 206.

Gannett had said Friday it was eliminating an unspecified number of jobs in its newspaper division.

Janet Hasson, publisher and president, said Tuesday that The Journal News was responding to changing advertising trends. The company also publishes the LoHud.com website.

She said her priority is to preserve the ability to deliver breaking local news and investigative journalism.

Hasson said the cuts were not related to the recent closing of Newsday’s digital-only news operation in the suburbs north of New York City.

  1. Good to hear. The Journal News is one of the worst anti-semitic rags in the United States. Aside from their routine anti-Jewish “news” stories, the comment section on their website features the kind of talk expected in Nazi Germany circa the early 1940’s.

Hopefully the next bit of news out of them will be their permanent shutdown.
