Deputy Interior Minister Visits Uman Ahead of Rosh Hashanah

umAs Rosh Hashanah nears preparations continue at a brisk pace in Uman, in the area of the tziyun of Rav Nachman ZY”A. YWN-ISRAEL recently reported that the site for Tashlich has been changed in line with recommendations from security officials.

Another pre-yomtov visit took place, this time by Deputy Minister of the Interior Fania Kirshenbaum, who was accompanied by Israel Ambassador to the Ukraine Reuven Daniel. They met with local officials, including the mayor of Uman and the local chief of police.

The Breslov Rosh Hashanah event in Uman is high on the agenda of Israeli security officials, who are well-aware the presence of tens of thousands of Jews from around the world makes a prime terror target.

The visiting delegation was taken around the tziyun complex by officials of the World Breslov Organization to permit them to get a first hand understanding of the massive nature of the event that will take place on Rosh Hashanah.

  1. The Breslov seem unaware of the enormous burdens their annual Rosh Hashanah migration to Uman impose on the security forces of EY. By placing so many yidden at risk in on place outside of EY, they invite terrorists to exploit this “target of opportunity”. While many have noted what a waste of tens of millions of NIS is created by this annual “event” and the disruption to thousand of families whose husbands and fathers leaves the wives and children alone for yom tov, I fear its only a matter of time before we read of some terrorist attack. Aren’t there enough kivrei tzadikim in EY so that they don’t have to do this big party every year where many get drunk and engage in all sorts of behavior that ends up being a big bushah and chilul hashem.

  2. This entire thing is ridiculous. I don’t understand why taxpayers (through the Israel government) are paying for this. Either 1) People that want to go will take the risks involved, 2) People going will hire appropriate security personnel, or 3) People will stop going there. No one is rushing on R”H to visit the kever of the Rema or Vilna Gaon.

If they want to go and start the new year by supporting the economies of these antisemitic people, let them do it on their own dime.
