  1. My question is sincere…. Is it just me or does anyone else think that 20,000 people flying to Uman at say $1,000 per person with expenses (totalling $20,000,000 might be better spent??

I think Rav Nachman would agree.

On the one hand we read that there are tremendous budgetary cutbacks to familieis, yeshivas and kollelim yet there seems to be money for travel to Uman.

Disclosure: I am not a “chossid”.

If someone could explain this to me I really want to understand. Thank you.

  2. #1: my husband gets chizzuk almost an entire year from going to uman. Until Chanukah he’s still inspired and starting pesach he’s already getting excited to go back. The breslevers I’ve spoken to all spend almost the entire time doing hisbodidus and davening, separating from all matters gashmiyus, on the most crucial days of the year. They daven in a minyan that lasts the entire day with a little break for the Seuda and then they go back to davening until nighttime. If you believe that this world is really preparation for olam Haba then you’d believe that the best money spent is that on avodas Hashem which is what the real breslevers are seeking. Yes there are a bunch of wackos that give it a bad rep but there is a tremendous amount that go entirely for Hashem.

  3. Reply to #1, I set up a log in name just for the purpose to answer you, Rabbi Miller said, don’t ridicule a Minhog that Yiden do, if 20.000 people travel to Uman, don’t ridicule them, 20.000 are there, another 20.000 would like to go but cant, I personally would love to go, even though I don’t belong to Breslev. I have a friend that was very cold to Yiddishkiet when life wasn’t that good to him, he was 1 time in Uman for Rosh Hashana and canme home a new person, he told me, it was the 1st time that felt Kedusha!
    Kol Hakoved to #2
