President Barack Obama today officially endorsed Bill de Blasio for New York City mayor, praising de Blasio’s commitment to an economy that works for all, not just those at the top and to lifting more people out of poverty and into the middle class so that no New Yorker is left behind.

“Progressive change is the centerpiece of Bill de Blasio’s vision for New York City, and it’s why he will be a great mayor of America’s largest city. Whether it’s ensuring pre-kindergarten is available for every four-year old, expanding after-school programs for every middle school student who wants and needs them, making affordable housing available for more New York families and preserving community hospitals, Bill’s agenda for New York is marked by bold, courageous ideas that address the great challenges of our time.”

“I am deeply honored by President Obama’s endorsement,” de Blasio said. “If I am fortunate to earn the trust of the people of New York on November 5th, I will work every day to advance our shared value of making sure everyone has a fair shot. On health care, tax fairness or the economy, the President is no stranger to addressing big problems with big ideas and big solutions. I will emulate the example he has set, and if elected I stand eager to work with him on an urban agenda that grows prosperity for all.”

  1. For the liberal, tinok shenishba, upper west side numbnuts this is just what they need. Now that barry has put his hechsher shtemple on deBlasio, 95% of those folks will vote for him.

  2. What is this jerk doing getting involved in a mayoral election, for goodness sake??!? Does he have to stick his nose into everythinG? We’d all be better off is this fool would mind his OWN business for once.

  3. Poor naive Bill. You think he gives a hoot about you? And you think raising taxes is the answer? Go right ahead and watch as more of the wealthy people and businesses pick up and leave to States more economically right for them.

Once again the Dems don’t get it: raising taxes never and I repeat never worked to close budget deficits and economies.

Do that and risk being a one term mayor.

  4. Commenter No. 4: Are you talking about commenter no. 3? If not, you owe him/her an apology? If so, you owe him/her an apology anyway, and you should spend some time learning why antecedents matter.

  5. And to the YWN headline writer: Where in this article – other than your headline – does it say anything about a vow to hike taxes on anybody? Yes, it does talk about spending, and we can presume that the money will have to come from somewhere, and we know – but not from this article – that Mr. DeBlasio has talked about new taxes (unlike, say, George W. Bush, who talked about spending, and spent, but did not talk about taxes). So, what has the headline got to do with the reporting in the article?
