Greenfield Calls for Maximum Sentence for Flores Following Gun Possession Conviction

gfnCouncilman David G. Greenfield is requesting that David Flores receive the maximum sentence allowed under law after being convicted today of illegally possessing a gun used to shoot four Shomrim safety patrol volunteers in Boro Park in 2010.

Councilman Greenfield is relieved that Flores was found guilty of weapons possession and faces between 5 and 15 years in prison, but also expressed disappointment that a Brooklyn jury did not convict Flores of more serious charges, including attempted murder, assault and criminal use of a firearm.

Councilman Greenfield is now urging the judge presiding over the case to send a clear message that illegal guns will not be tolerated in New York City by handing down the maximum sentence allowed under the law when Flores is sentenced next month.

“It was very upsetting to hear that this individual will not be held fully accountable for his reckless actions, including shooting four volunteer neighborhood patrol members at close range. At the same time, I am relieved that the jury agreed that we cannot tolerate individuals carrying illegal guns around our city. I am calling on the judge overseeing next month’s sentencing to consider the importance of keeping illegal guns off our streets and sentence this individual to the maximum sentence allowed,” said Councilman Greenfield.

  1. So know we know how our Black neighbors felt when Zimmerman got acquitted. I guess one’s perspective is based on which side of the gun you are on.

  2. Superficial comparison. Martin attacked Zimmermann for no reason, so Zimmermann had the right to defend himself. This guy was a per who committed an illegal act, therefor shomrim were right to corner him.

  3. Zimmerman was stalking Martin (since he thought Martin was a burglar, apparently wrongly). Had Martin won the fight (i.e. if Martin was on trial for shooting the person he regarded as a stalker, he would have probably not only won but probably on directed verdict).

For indecent exposure, there was no basis for the shomrim to attack the guy. They should have called the police. At the least, they should have made a citizen’s arrest and avoided any physical contact beyond keeping a safe distance until the police arrived.

  4. To all you Chachumim who try every trick NOT to sit on a jury, let this be a lesson! Hmm, I wonder how many frum people were on the Jury that acquitted this bum? But, its ok, keep complaining!

  5. Not getting
The fact is they know we stand up for each other so his lawyers would probably be able to limit the amount of frum people on his jury. I’m no lawyer so I don’t know exactly how it works but the defense gets a right to disqualify jury members.
