NYC Mayor-Elect De Blasio Celebrates ‘Thanksgivukkah’ Symbolism

de+blasio+victoryA rare mashup of events, in which Thanksgiving weekend and Chanukah is celebrated all across America at the same time, has earned the unique time of events the term “Thanksgivukkah.”

The following is an email by mayor-elect Bill de Blasio, sent to his supporters on the first night of Chanukah and the eve of Thanksgiving.

“As we approach Thanksgiving and begin to celebrate the first night of Hanukkah, I want you to know how thankful my family is for your support over the last year — and how humbled I am by the opportunity you’ve given me to serve,” Mr. de Blasio writes in the email.

“These two holidays, observed by so many across our city, celebrate our gratitude for the blessings we have received and our awe at the strength of a brave few to stand up for freedom, tolerance, and diversity.”

“We live in a city of blessings and miracles. And none greater than the way New Yorkers come together as family, as friends, and as neighbors to help each other in times of need.”
