Obama Discusses Iran Deal With Saudi Arabia’s King

iranPresident Barack Obama has briefed Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah (ab-DUHL’-uh) on the interim agreement regarding Iran’s nuclear program.

The White House says the leaders agreed Wednesday to consult regularly on efforts by the U.S., Britain, France, China, Russia and Germany to negotiate a comprehensive solution that would satisfy international concerns about Iran’s nuclear intentions.

A weekend agreement between the parties temporarily puts the brakes on parts of Iran’s disputed nuclear program and allows for more intrusive international monitoring of its facilities.

In return, Iran gains relief from stiff economic sanctions and a pledge that no new penalties will be imposed during the six months the parties have to iron out a more comprehensive agreement.

Iran says its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes and not meant to build a weapon.
