photos1

Two shuls in Ezer, located in the Lachish District, were vandalized on Thursday night, 9 Shevat 5774. When the gabbai arrived at the community’s main shul on erev Shabbos he noticed the doors of the aron kodesh had been forced open and torn out of place, and the Sifrei Torah were ripped and on the floor R”L as was other tashmishei kodesh.

When community members checked a second shul, located in a caravan nearby, they were horrified to see the same scenario.

Police responded from Kiryat Malachi and crime scene investigators gathered evidence from both shuls.

Israel Police Southern District Commander Yoram Halevy told the media that seeing the Sifrei Torah damaged and thrown to the ground was a most painful sight and he and his men will do everything possible to bring the responsible people to justice.

  1. from the photos it appears the sifrei torah were not heavily damaged, does anyone know if they can they be fixed up and used again?

  2. Must you show such graphic pictures? I think most of us would appreciate not seeing pictures of vandalized sifrei Torah on the floor. It adds nothing to the story.

  3. On the contrary WIY…. the fact that the picture bothered you enough to leave a comment shows that you spent more than 5 seconds thinking about this tragedy. You’ve proven that a picture is in fact worth a thousand words.
