Ministerial Committee Approves One Chief Rabbinate Law

icrThe Ministerial Law Committee on Sunday, 18 Shevat 5774 approved the bill sponsored by Ministers Naftali Bennett and Tzipi Livni as expected. The bill calls for having only one chief rabbi instead of two as has been the case throughout the years.

The two cabinet ministers have joined forces to push this bill through, explaining there is only one president of the state, one chief rabbi of the IDF and therefore, there is no need for two chief rabbis.

Bennett feels that one chief rabbi serving both Ashkenazim and Sephardim will lead to increased achdus as well.
