NJ State Police: Christie Did Not Fly Near George Washington Bridge While Lanes Were Closed

njspcNew Jersey state police say Gov. Chris Christie did not fly over the George Washington Bridge during three helicopter trips taken while the traffic lanes were blocked for four days last September.

Capt. Stephen Jones confirmed that Christie didn’t fly near the traffic gridlock his associates created by blocking approach lanes to the bridge in Fort Lee, apparently for political retribution.

Jones said none of the governor’s flights that week flew near the bridge or the town at its base, including a flight on Sept. 11. A legislative panel investigating the lane closings authorized 18 more subpoenas Monday, including one to the state police aviation unit.

The Republican governor and possible 2016 presidential candidate often travels by state police helicopter.

Christie maintains he became aware of the scheme only afterward.
