With Table Set For Shabbos: Rosh Yeshivah Receives Foreign Minister Cohen

An unusual meeting took place on Friday afternoon at the home of HaGaon HaRav Gershon Edelstein in Bnei Brak.

Foreign Minister Eli Cohen, who returned on Thursday from a historical meeting in Sudan, arrived at the Rosh Yeshivah’s home on Friday afternoon, when the table was already set for Shabbos.

HaRav Edelstein inquired about Israel’s diplomatic relations in the wake of the protests against the planned judicial reforms as well as Cohen’s meeting in Sudan.

Cohen responded to the Rosh Yeshivah’s questions and also promised to be active in preserving Jewish cemeteries in Europe.

At the end of the rare meeting that lasted about twenty minutes, the Rosh Yeshivah warmly congratulated the foreign minister and the new government and expressed hope that the government will succeed in their plans, including giyur, kashrus, the draft law, and chinuch.

After the visit, Cohen tweeted: “It’s a great zechus to bring in Shabbos after receiving a bracha from the Rosh Yeshivah, HaGoan HaRav Edelstein.”

“It’s moving to see the gadlus in Torah and the pashtus. Shabbat Shalom.”
