Council Member Chaim Deutsch Invites Constituents To First Participatory Governing Meeting

deutNew York City Council Member Chaim Deutsch (D-Brooklyn) will host an unprecedented Participatory Governing meeting in the 48th Council District at Cunningham JHS on Thursday, May 29 at 6:30 pm, where constituents will have the opportunity to propose legislation in order to improve their quality of life.

“During my first five months in City Council, I have worked hard to involve my community in local government, and Participatory Governing is the latest effort on my part to accomplish this important goal,” said Council Member Deutsch. “Residents living in my district deserve the opportunity to affect the laws that govern their lives.”

At next week’s Participatory Governing meeting, Council Member Deutsch will preside over a panel of community leaders, each representing one of the many diverse neighborhoods within his district. The panel will field proposals provided by the community directly to Council Member Deutsch, who will weigh the costs, benefits and overall feasibility of each suggestion, before moving forward with his legislative agenda.

Participatory Governing is the latest in a series of town hall meetings, which Council Member Deutsch has hosted and will continue to host throughout his district. During prior meetings, community members proposed suggestions for capital improvements and necessary repairs to local parks. Council Member Deutsch is currently working together with Brooklyn Borough Parks Commissioner Kevin Jeffry in evaluating costs of the various proposals advocated at the Town Hall Meetings, with the objective of funding suitable parks improvements over the coming years.

Join Council Member Deutsch in Participatory Governing at Cunningham JHS [1875 E. 17th St. between Avenues R and S in Homecrest] Thursday, May 29 at 6:30 pm.
