UN Demands for IDF Probe: DM Ya’alon – Many Videos are Edited

yaalonThe PA (Palestinian Authority) is calling for a probe as its propaganda machine is operating in full swing. Not wishing to miss an opportunity to compel Israel to explain itself, the United Nations and the US administration have joined in the call for an investigation into the shootings. UN officials Oscar Fernandez-Taranco is calling for “an independent transparent investigation” as the anti-Israel international organization does its part to turn this into an international condemnation against Israel.

“The UN calls for an independent and transparent investigation by the Israeli authorities into the two deaths, and urges Israel to ensure that its security forces strictly adhere to the basic principles on the use of force and firearms by law enforcement officials,” Fernandez-Taranco said. A similar request was made by a spokesperson for the US State Department.

This latest case deals with two PA residents shot dead during violent protests near Ramallah last week as the PA marked Nakba Day. The PA has released footage that shows the victims were shot without justification.

In response to the pressure on Israel to accommodate the PA’s demands for a thorough investigation, Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon stated he has seen many edited and doctored videos. During his visit to Haifa on Tuesday 20 Iyar, Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon admitted that he has not seen this particular video but he is well acquainted with the methodology used to edit videos to show what one wishes.

Ya’alon however is familiar with the incident that led to the two deaths, explaining border police were under attacks with stones and other objects and the situation was life threatening when they opened fire. Ya’alon is unmoved by the calls for a probe as he is aware the soldiers in question acted appropriately when firing at the rioters.
