Monthly Terror Summary (May 2014)


hamThe following report was released by the ISA (Israel Security Agency – Shin Bet).

May 2014 saw a slight increase in the number of terror attacks: 116 attacks as opposed to 112 in April 2014. The increase was prominent in Yehuda and Shomron: 96 attacks as opposed to 80 in April, while 16 of them occurred in the “Jerusalem Envelope” (13 in April). The increase was also seen in Jerusalem: 11 attacks as opposed to 7 in April. On the other hand, Gaza saw a decrease: 9 attacks as opposed to 23 in April.

A police officer was moderately injured as a result of stone throwing (28 May) near the Har Habayis.

Data regarding terror attacks in May 2014

Following is a regional distribution of attacks: 9 attack from Gaza (23 in April); 96 attacks in Yehuda and Shomron (80 in April); 11 attacks in Jerusalem (7 in April).

Jerusalem, Yehuda and Shomron: Most attacks executed in May 88 out of 107 were in the form of firebombs (April: 73 out of 87).

Distribution of attacks according to regions and pattern profile:

Following is a distribution of attacks in May 2014 according to regions:

Gaza – 9 attacks: 4 rocket launchings; 1 mortar shell launching; 2 small arms shootings; 1 IED; 1 AT.

Yehuda, Shomron & Jerusalem – 107 attacks: 14 IED; 4 small arms shootings (1 in Jerusalem); 1 object/stone throwing (in Jerusalem); 88 firebombs (9 in Jerusalem).

High-trajectory launchings from Gaza and Sinai

Throughout May 2014 4 rockets and 3 mortar shell were launched towards Israel (in 5 attacks), as opposed to April: 19 rockets and 5 mortar shell in 14 attacks.
