Court Denies Olmert’s Request to Travel


olfA request filed with Tel Aviv District Court Justice David Rosen to permit former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to travel abroad was denied by the court. Despite being sentenced to six years imprisonment following a conviction on fraud and bribery charges the former prime minister felt he should be permitted to travel abroad. The request was explained to permit Olmert to tend to business meetings and leave the country from July 8th to 15th.

The court preferred to accept the position of the state prosecutor, who opposed permitted Olmert to leave the country. Rosen explained that granting permission to travel abroad would have to be accompanied by extenuating circumstances and business meetings do not qualify as such.
