New polling shows New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s lead over his GOP challenger shrank following news that his administration is being investigated for meddling with an anti-corruption commission.
The survey released Tuesday by Marist College gives Cuomo, a Democrat, 54 percent of the vote compared to 23 percent who back Republican Rob Astorino. A poll last month put Cuomo’s lead at 59-24 percent.
The poll suggests that while some voters were swayed by allegations that Cuomo’s top aide discouraged the commission from investigating groups linked to his administration, the episode hasn’t significantly altered the race. The survey shows Astorino remains largely unknown.
The telephone survey of 1,039 New York residents was sponsored by NBC 4 New York and The Wall Street Journal. It has a 3.4 percent margin of error.
