Police Step Up Arrests of Arabs Involved in Attacks in Yerushalayim

Following the alarming increase in firebomb and rock-throwing attacks in areas of Yerushalayim in recent weeks, police are getting tough, increasing the number of arrests of suspected. Police and border police during the night (Tuesday to Wednesday, 22 Elul) arrested 22 Arabs allegedly involved in violent attacks in recent days.

Police report some of the suspects are minors, including a 9-year-old boy. Police were escorting a Magen David Adom ambulance in the A-Tor area of the capital when the 9-year-old decided to attack them with rocks. Another suspect caught in the act is 11.

One Jewish man was injured in his face during the night as a result of one of those attacks. He is being treated in Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital.

Rioting and attacks have risen sharply in predominately Arab areas including Beit Haninah, Shuafat, Issawiya and others. Favored targets have become French Hill apartment buildings, the Jerusalem light rail, police personnel, and mispallalim heading to and from the Kosel using less traveled routes to name a few.
