Sources in Jerusalem, Ramallah and Cairo are confirming reports that negotiations towards achieving a long-term ceasefire between Israel and Hamas will resume in Cairo on Tuesday, 28 Elul. Talks were set to resume on Wednesday but because it is erev Rosh Hashanah, they were moved up one day.
As a result of indirect talks; beginning this week Israel will permit easing some restrictions impacting Gaza residents. This includes permitting additional Gazans to pass through the Erez Crossing as well as more trucks carrying supplies entering Gaza and reducing the size of the security perimeter along the Gaza border.
Senior advisor to PA leader Abu Mazen, Azzam el-Ahmed adds that talks will also be taking place between Hamas and Fatah towards ending the conflict between Ramallah and Gaza.
