Increase in Rock-Throwing Attacks Against the Jerusalem Light Rail

jlrnAuthorities report a sharp increase in rock-throwing attacks targeting the Jerusalem light rail. The operator of the rail service, the CityPass Company reports that as a result of damage from Arab rock-throwing attacks, only 14 of its 23 cars are operational today. Company officials lament the fact that 40% of its fleet is out of service as a result of the violent attacks. Light rail officials explain this results in fewer trains and longer intervals between trains. This is resulting in overcrowding and less than optimal service during chol hamoed.

On Sunday 18 Tishrei, four additional cars were damaged by Arabs hurling stones in what has become an almost daily occurrence. There were five separate attacks reported on Sunday.
