PM Netanyahu Decides to Topple Giyur Bill

bibIn what many perceive to be a peace overture to chareidi parties, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has decided to topple the giyur bill sponsored by Justice Minister Tzipi Livni and others, Channel 2 News reported. The report stated the prime minister informed Livni of his decision during a conversation with coalition faction leaders. The prime minister informed them the bill was being removed from the cabinet agenda.

It is added the prime minister explained he realizes that pushing the bill through would represent cutting all ties with chareidi parties and he is not ready for such a reality at this time.

Livni has already announced that if the bill is not passed into law, her The Movement party will break from the coalition. Clearly the prime minister faces coalition threats from a number of directions at present and clearly he understands that there is a growing likelihood one of his partners will break the coalition. This being the case, it is clear why Mr. Netanyahu is unwilling to cut all ties with the chareidi parties as new elections according to many are already on the horizon.

  1. The middle-of-the-roaders and mizrachi-leaning groups will say, “you see, the state is a good place, they have our interests in mind, the ge’ulah is here, they are listening to us, we are making strides, etc.”. Continue sending presents/doron (in the form of concessions and compromises).

Those aligned with mainstream da’as Torah will say, “B”H our tefilos have been answered. And we should continue, nonetheless, to work within the framework of democracy (doron AND tefilah).

The old yishuv – those who have remained steadfast for 100 – 150 years to their hashgafah, that of Rav Shmuel Salant, the Maharil Diskin, Rav Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld, the Brisker Rav, the Chazon Ish, the Satmar Rav, etc., will say Yaakov Avinu also prepared for war.

  2. “they are listening to us, we are making strides,”

Only and once more only because UTJ together with charedim abroad have been giving their blood and fighting tooth , whilst these guys were lounging on their sofas.

Ironically but also typically, they were ready to cave and/or were the catalysts in the first place.

  3. This should be lesson for all.

    Mir darf tun

    mir darf nisht ooftun”

A bare couple of months ago,it seemed almost hopeless. Most of ‘oilam’ and even the ‘askanim’ in israel and acroos the globe, were throwing up their hands and were nearly on the verge of throwing in towel, even with potential of permanently changing the face of klal yisroel in front of them .
