In the old days, recalling your ambassador was a serious sign of displeasure, second only to breaking diplomatic relations, which was the traditional last step before declaring war. However now, given that Israel and Jordan are neighbors, and have regular telephone and internet services which are used for any seriously urgent conversations, it doesn’t mean all that much.
When Jordan controlled the old city, no Jew was allowed anywhere near the Kosel. That was ok with them, but now he opens his mouth. He must be terrified of the terrorists coming to swoop in on his lovely land.
Recalling its ambassadors has become a routine for Jordan (as well as for Egypt) so it is not an extraordinary news any more. In public, to placate it restless (of which at least half of whom are Palestinian) population, Jordan will denounce Israel, while in private both countries will probably continue to talk. But I wonder, how tense the relations are behind closed doors and if there is a functioning working relationship.
