The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office and Tarpon Springs Police Department are investigating a shooting early SUnday morning that claimed the life of an officer.
The sheriff’s office confirmed an officer has been killed. The incident took place around 3 a.m. Sunday at Glen’s Eureka Apartments on Grand Boulevard in Tarpon Springs.
According to Breaking911.com, police were called to reports of a person banging on residential doors. When police arrived the suspect shot one of the officers and then attempted to flee in a vehicle.
After a brief pursuit and vehicle crash, the suspect was taken into custody.
The officer whose identity has not yet been released worked for the Tarpon Springs Police Department.
This happened around 12 hours after two NYPD officers were shot execution style, while sitting in a patrol car in Brooklyn.
