It was not too long ago that there was anger directed to a Tel Aviv shul over hosting a fashion show in the actual shul. Just as that matter is disappearing from the media there is an episode involving Great Tel Aviv Shul on Allenby, which is hosting a Sylvester Holiday event on December 31st.
Chief Rabbi Dovid Lau Shlita agreed to speak a at a kiruv event scheduled for News Year’s Eve, the goyish calendar that is. The event is set for Wednesday night 31 December 2014. However when Rav Lau saw the poster that was spread around, he was shocked to see his name under a banner headline for “The Sylvester Holiday” which is what secular Israelis call the goyish New Year. Wikipedia explains the name derives from the anniversary of the death of Pope Sylvester I, a saint.
Needless to say Rav Lau’s staff demanded the removal of the posters and an appropriate replacement distributed in its place.
