Israel: The Prosecution has a State Witness in Government Corruption Case


chnPolice officials on Monday 14 Teves announced a senior public official has agreed to become a state witness in the widespread high-level government corruption investigation. The identity of that person is not being released.

Police add that MK (Yisrael Beitenu) Shimon Ochayon provided information on Monday regarding funds allocated to the soccer league amid allegations that government funding was forthcoming in return for services the MK received from soccer officials. Ochayon’s involvement adds yet another Yisrael Beitenu party official in the investigation. Police stress he was not questioned but came in and provided information pertaining to the ongoing investigation.

There are also reports that the expanding investigation may involve Jewish National Fund officials and Deputy Minister of Education (Bayit Yehudi) Avi Wortzman. Yesh Atid MK Boaz Toporovsky also provided police with testimony on Tuesday, 15 Teves.
