NYPD Holds High-Level Security Meeting With Jewish Community Leaders

bratJewish community leaders in New York City received a high-level security briefing by the NYPD today.

The meeting which was called for by Police Commissioner Bratton, was held at Police Headquarters on Tuesday afternoon. It was attended by the top-brass of the Department, including  First Deputy Commissioner Ben Tucker, Deputy Commissioner of Intelligence & Counter-terrorism Michael Miller, Chief of Department James P. O’Neill, Chief of Community Affairs Joanne Jaffe, Chief James Waters, and other senior nypd officials.

Jewish community leaders in attendance were Malcolm Hoenlein (Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations), Michael Miller (Jewish Community Relations Council), Rabbi Joseph Potasnik (New York Board of Rabbis & FDNY Chaplain), and others.

The commissioner reassured the community the the NYPD is doing everything they can to ensure the security of the community. Bratton introduced John Miller who delivered a highly-impressive briefing and addressed the leaders about the latest terror threats and what the NYPD is doing to ensure the safety of all New Yorkers.

Chief O’neill briefed the attendees on the latest crime statistics and where the NYPD stands on crime today.

Malcolm Hoenlein spoke with YWN following the meeting who said the following: “Commissioner Bratton convened todays meeting and others like it, with top officials of the NYPD in attendance as a sign of his concern, and of his commitment to protect the community. The Commissioner and the NYPD recognize that there is heightened concern following the recent terror attacks in France and are taking concrete steps to protect the community. The NYPD has been – for a long time – way ahead of any other police department in the county in counter terrorism efforts, operating in a very sophisticated structure that they created.

Hoenlein said the Commissioner also said that “the community has to be aware of their surroundings and take the steps necessary to ensure that we do our part to make the police work have maximum effect”.

  1. why is it the SAME unelected people who often even when wearing a yamaka have anti-Chareidi perspective are “speaking” for the community. The best thing we can do is get armed and not wait for a Har Nof situation here in Brooklyn, which WILL happen thanks to all the new immigrants. In addition I already am ready for all the condemnations AFTER the murder. DO not rely on the NYPD remember the Crown Heights pogrom instigated by the mayors personal advisor Sharpton.
