Court Filing Seeks to Tie Christie to Dropping of Indictment

chrisA court filing in an ex-prosecutor’s lawsuit seeks to tie Republican New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie to the dropping of an indictment related to a member of Christie’s transition team.

Former Hunterdon County assistant prosecutor Bennett Barlyn filed the brief Thursday in state Superior Court.

Barlyn says he was fired for suggesting politics influenced the dismissal of the indictment against the former county sheriff and two subordinates because a Christie donor was questioned in the case.

Christie has denied playing any role. A spokesman has said Christie didn’t remember meeting any of the people involved.

But Barlyn’s filing references emails in which one of the defendants writes about talking to Christie at fundraisers.

Barlyn also says a Christie aide made an inquiry after he was fired. His lawsuit seeks damages including lost wages.
