Rav Zalman Nechemia Goldberg: One Mustn’t Vote for a Party with Non-Frum Persons on the List

zngProminent posek HaGaon HaRav Zalman Nechemia Goldberg Shlita has instructed talmidim who approached him for guidance regarding the upcoming elections they may not vote for Bayit Yehudi or any other party with persons on the ticket who are mechalel Shabbos.

Rav Goldberg is quoted telling his talmidim that the Torah prohibits voting for a party that contains non-frum people on the lineup, stating people who are mechalel Shabbos are simply not qualified to be witnesses and therefore disqualified.

The rav quotes the Rema who teaches us that we may not appoint one who is ‘pasul l’eidus’ to run the tziburs’ affairs, and explains the only options are parties that do not contain people who are mechalel Shabbos.

  1. #4, the point #3 is making, briefly, is that the party that used to be the representative of the “DL crowd” now has branched out to try to represent a greater cross section of Israelis and that, in doing so, has lost it’s primary focus(and the approbation of many hardalnik rabbis) and is no longer the “National Religious Party” of previous times.
That is VERY relevant, even if certain hardalnik rabbis are desperate that the elections may go left and still want to say that “BY follows the rabbis.”
Rabbis can’t influence people much whose primary focus is the State of Israel and not Torah V’Eretz Yisrael.

  2. so what is frum? some one who wear black hat and coat and eats cholent?

or does he mean a Jew that is ‘yeras haShem’?
