Herzliya Man in Custody in Hate Crime Against Arab Sanitation Worker


arrestThe 28-year-old Herzliya sanitation worker who was stabbed earlier Tuesday, 2 Rosh Chodesh Iyar sustained light injuries. Police made an arrest a short time following the attack, which is being regarded as a hate crime.

“I saw him in the street and realized he is an Arab. I decided to stab him with my knife because he is an Arab” admitted the 26-year-old Jewish man in custody for the attack. The attacker is a resident of northern Israel who is a maintenance worker.

After the attack, the victim, who was sweeping a street when attacked told police “I heard him shouting ‘death to Arabs’ before he lunged at me”. The suspect was apprehended after a description was given to police by an eyewitness. Police are treating the attack as an act of terror.

Dr. Eli Shulman, who treated the victim, explains his wounds are not serious and he is fine. The knife did not penetrate the thoracic cavity. He was treated and released later in the day.
