Following acts of vandalism and threats against the director of the cemetery, the cemetery in the northern community of Tel Regev has gone on strike. According to the Kippa website report, the threats are from Bedouin neighbors in Kfar Kana.
The cemetery in question serve northern area Jewish residents. An attorney from the Cemetery Council sent a letter to Northern District Israel Police Commander Major-General Dvir Zohar warning of the troublesome situation. The letter details the ongoing threats leveled against the manager of the cemetery, Aryeh Ferjon, pointing out that since nothing it done, the decision has been made to launch the strike.
The urgent letter was also sent to Minister of Religious Services Naftali Bennett, his deputy, Rabbi Eli Ben-Dahan, Police Chief Yochanan Danino, Ministry of Religious Services Director-General Elchanan Glatt, as well as other police and state officials. It details the vandalism which includes the destruction and theft of surveillance cameras, burial equipment and more. Attacks included the use of hand grenades.
The letter calls on police and other agencies to take immediate and appropriate action to permit the reopening of the cemetery.
