PM Netanyahu to Coalition Partners: Cross the Board Cuts are Essential

gafniEarlier this week chareidi Members of Knesset informed Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu that any attempt to cut funding included in coalition agreements would not be tolerated, hinting that such an event may lead to a coalition crisis.

MKs Yaakov Litzman and Moshe Gafne warn they will not accept any attempt to cut funding earmarked for yeshivos and the chareidi tzibur.

Despite their message to the prime minister “Don’t test us”, Mr. Netanyahu wants his coalition partners to agree to an across the board cuts as the treasury is working to build the 2015-2016 state budgets.

Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon has been working to persuade Yahadut Hatorah to withdraw some of its budgetary demands, albeit without success. Efforts by the prime minister to date have been met with the same refusal. The cuts in question are significant in some cases, 50%, impacting a number of areas including monthly child allowance payments and chareidi yeshivos that are not a part of the state schools.

  1. Netanyahu can cut his own budget but not ours.

We know about erratic falling tax revenues, flexible adjustable budgets, pranks with blather, and much more. If he wants advice, tax the rich at a 90%+ plus. Any income over $1 million is really a windfall. It’s not compensation for labor and expertise.

By the way the rent subsidy should be increased.
