AG Weinstein Closes the Case Against Cop Who Beat IDF Soldier

biThere was a small protest of a few tens of people outside the home of Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein over the weekend after he announced he is closing the case against the policeman that beat IDF Ethiopian soldier Damas Pakada without provocation. Weinstein explains he is closing the case “Due to a lack of public interest”, despite the violent protests that followed the attack, which was captured on video. There were also many condemnatory statements addressing discrimination against Israel’s Israeli Ethiopian community released from the highest levels of government including the prime minister and president.

Nevertheless Weinstein is comfortable permitting Israel Police to deal with the policeman on the disciplinary level and he is not moving ahead with criminal charges.

  1. what does “lack of public interest” have to do with the price of tea in China? Isn’t this about justice and criminal misconduct on the part of the police (beheimos)?

  2. So can anyone now use that as a defense in Israel? Say I beat my neighbor and nobody really cares for the guy anyway, I go free? And that’s called a democratic country? Hmmm.
