Report: El Al Chilul Shabbos Continues

elalAs YWN reported more than ten years ago, El Al during recent years has been the subject of numerous scandals pertaining to kashrus failures and chilul Shabbos. Kikar Shabbos News this week reports yet another incident, this one addressing the fact the airline regularly begins working to transport meals for motzei Shabbos flights before Shabbos ends.

This report refers to an El Al affiliate, Tamam Aircraft Food Industries Ltd., which supplies kosher meals for flights. The company routinely is Mechalel Shabbos to bring the meals to Sundor flights.

Kikar explains El Al runs Tamam which has Jews transporting the food on Shabbos.

The report adds that a company call El Chef, which prepares meals, has already been warned about Chilul Shabbos by the Chief Rabbinate of Israel.

Kikar spoke with the Rav of Tamam, Rabbi Moshe Nachshoni, who insists the company does not work on Shabbos. He explains the meals are ready before Shabbos and El Al sends someone to pick them up from a designated place at Tamam as other companies do. Rav Nachshoni explains this has been the arrangement for 67 years. Now the Chief Rabbinate is not approving the arrangement so Tamam will look for another site to store the meals before Shabbos and El Al can take the meals from there, not from Tamam.

The Chief Rabbinate adds “Any company failing to comply with regulations will lose its hashgacha”.

Tamam officials explain they have always and will continue adhering to instructions from Rav Nachshoni and the Chief Rabbinate of Israel.

  1. What does this tell us about the other places Rabbi Nachshoni gives a hechsher to like the Nir Etzion hotel? What happens there Shabbos or is it OK because it has been going on for 67 years? The holy Torah is a little older than that Rabbi Nachshoni.

  2. Nu, so is it any different with Delta? They must also get their meals from that same place and the same chilul shabbisdika procedure is probably also followed for Delta’s Saturday night flights (Moitzei Shabbis). So even if Delta is not owned by Yiddin the food is delivered or picked up by Yidden working on Shabbis Koidesh. Can a Yid flying on Delta (or any other airline leaving Eretz Yisroel) eat the food which is delivered by other Yiddin who are mechalel Shabbos Koidesh. I think not. And also, this Rav Nachshoni- does he live in the Tamam warehouse? How does he know that the food is not being transported on Shabbis? Really he should have the only key to the warehouse and he should be the only one to unlock the place on Moitzei Shabbis. I would be amazed if this procedure is followed. Maybe it is but I doubt it.

  3. Insane – the things that get you all going. Start your own airline if you don’t like what El Al is doing. Last time I looked El Al was a private airline, and certainly don’t have to adhere to your closed minded nonsense. And the Haredim who don’t want to sit next to women can fly on the same planes with you nutjobs. ENOUGH already – it’s the year 2016, not 1402. Your dictats are getting to be the same as ISIS, and you are hurting all Jews with your closed minded garbage. Absolutely sickening

  4. To #3 the Tzioni: You know what, the same argument applies exactly to the various claims of those who wish to legitimize the State of Israel. After all, it’s 2016. Who cares about what some people claim that an ancient book says the Jews have rights to a certain strip of land in the middle east? In fact, you put it best: “Your dictats (diktats) are getting to be the same as ISIS, and you are hurting all Jews with your closed minded garbage.” Exactly the same can be said for zionism too. It’s not 1402 — stop with the particularist demands that disenfranchise the poor oppressed Palestinian people ….
If there is this “ancient” book that you refer to when it comes to real estate (Eretz Yisrael), let’s not forgot that book contains some other commandments too. Things like Shabbos, kashrus, and tznius. Mitzvos that you call “insane,” and “absolutely sickening” (afr”le’pum).

  5. AniTzioni, your logic is flawed. If you don’t believe the Torah to be of a divine source and its laws binding to Jews in all generations then you have no right to call yourself a Zioni because it is the Jews who have conquered the land from the Cannanites and as such any other conquering force such as the Arabs can have the rights to conquer land from the Jews as well.

How long do you think Jews without the anchor of the Torah can last!? Look at the assimilation rate of American “Jews”. A significant percentage of todays American “Jews” are no Jews. In Israel, a large part of Israelis consider themselves traditional and a lot of secular also respect Judaism and so vintages of Judaism has a tenacious hold on Israelis as of now. It is the liberals like you who are destroying the Jewish nation! And therefore you have no right to call yourself Zioni as Zion was promised to the Jews and you wish to trample on the laws which guarantee the Jewish people’s continuity.

  6. For the sake of clarity ( regardless or not if someone will read my comment since this post is relatively “old”), the Arab Muslims “Palestinians” have no right to c”v invade Israel just as Israelis cannot invade another country. 3,000 years ago (and also onward) ALL civilizations formed by one people invading another. Today, in modern times, it is a crime for one country to invade another country.

It is just in the context of calling oneself “Zioni” which is a reference to “Zion” based in Judaism, that to identify oneself as a Zionist and saying that one doesn’t need to follow the Torah c”v, is simply h
    ridiculous.
