High Court: PM Netanyahu May Continue Serving in Several Cabinet Posts Simultaneously

bibThe High Court of Justice on Wednesday, 5 Nissan, ruled against a petition filed by the Yesh Atid opposition party challenging the legitimacy of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu serving in a number of cabinet posts simultaneously. At present, Mr. Netanyahu serves as Prime Minister as well as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Communications and Regional Cooperation.

The court explained that from a legal standpoint there is nothing preventing the Prime Minister from continuing to serve in the posts simultaneously.

Yesh Atid released a statement accepting the court’s verdict but questioning just how effectively Mr. Netanyahu can address the needs of the various ministries simultaneously.

One might ask another question, which is that if indeed Mr. Netanyahu is serving in all the posts simultaneously and effectively, then why must the cabinet be so large as clearly many of the cabinet positions can be eliminated.

  1. Why did the supreme court rule that the deputy foreign minister can remain a deputy minister, with Bibi as the full minister, but the deputy health minister (Rav Litzman) cannot remain deputy minister, with Bibi as the full minister?
    Sounds hypocritical to me.
