  1. You see, in the times of Tenaach there was no such concept as a Cheder or Yeshiva. There are no such words mentioned anywhere in any Pesukim. So the kids had to stay awake and hear about Yetzias Mitzrayim from their parents. Today our practice is so different, a different world.

  2. @Yira – CHaZa”L teach us that מימות האבות לא פסקו ישיבה מישראל. The Gemorah also teaches that the tinokos shel Beis Raban were dismissed (early) only on Erev Pesach do Erev Yom Kippur. The Gemorah also recounts how Yehoshua ben Gamla instituted a system for chedarim in each city. So, from where do you know they did not learn in cheder and what they were or were not taught there or by their fathers?
