Sephardic Community Sees End To Machlokes When Rav Shlomo Amar Attended Wedding Of Daughter Of Rav Yitzchak Yosef

aThere were cheers when Jerusalem Sephardi Chief Rabbi Shlomo Moshe Amar Shlita entered the wedding hall, clearly showing the tzibur has forgiven him and prefers shalom between the rav and Rishon L’Tzion Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef Shlita.

Rav Amar arrived at the chasenah of the daughter of his mechutin, Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef after the two have cut relations after Rav Amar did not back Rabbi Yosef in the Chief Rabbinate of Israel race. The chasunah was held in Binyanei Ha’uma. Thousands were in attendance.

Rav Amar arrived close to 11:00PM and headed to the dais where he and Rav Yitzchak Yosef shook hands amid cheers and singing of “ימים על ימי מלך תוסיף” and “Moshiach has to come!”

Rav Amar spoke with Mordechai Lavi of Kol Chai Radio on Thursday morning 25 Iyar, saying “Why is everyone making a big deal of this. I try to attend every chasunah I am invited to. I went and I sat with [Rishon L’Tzion Rabbi] Rav Yitzchak [Yosef Shlita] and wished him mazel tov and that is the story. Yes, the photographers and media make a big deal of things. There are far more important matters to speak about. We sat there with great simcha. I know the kallah for many years and I was truly joyous to take part in the chasunah”.

Kol Chai

We hoped it marks the end of a difficult period.

Rav Amar

G-d willing. I never had anger towards anyone and do not have today and hope this marks a new future. May there be peace among all of Am Yisrael.
