Manhattan: Wrong-Way Crash On West Side Highway Injures 4; 2 Men In Custody


nypdA driver and his passenger are in custody after allegedly fleeing police and driving a mini-van the wrong way onto the West Side Highway where they slammed into car, injuring themselves and two others.

The incident began late Tuesday near Eighth Avenue and West 17th Street, when police tried pulling over the minivan, which may have been stolen. The minivan first hit vehicles in the Chelsea neighborhood.

Then the driver fled north on the southbound side of the highway.

He crashed head-on into another vehicle on the Upper West Side. The other driver was in stable condition but his female passenger was critically injured.

The suspect and his male passenger, both in their 20s, are in custody at the hospital and charges are pending, police said.
