Hundreds Battle Brush Fire In Brooklyn On First Day Of Shavuos, 1 Taken To Hospital


fOfficials say roughly 300 firefighters and emergency responders fought a brush fire in New York City that stopped traffic and put a firefighter in the hospital.

Officials say the blaze, fueled by high winds, broke out Sunday afternoon near the Belt Parkway in Brooklyn.

Police closed Flatbush Avenue in both directions from Marine Parkway to the Gil Hodges Bridge.

A police helicopter poured water on the fire, which was extinguished by Sunday evening. Officials say firefighters are monitoring the area overnight.

One firefighter was taken to a hospital for heat exhaustion.

Fire officials say no buildings were evacuated and no homes were at risk.
