Report: Housing Minister Galant May Defect To Likud

1Housing Minister (Kulanu) Yoav Galant is conducting talks that may lead to him leaving his party to move over to the Likud party, the Kalkalist reports. It is reported Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is most interested in bringing Galant in since after the departure of former Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon, Likud lacks a security expert. Galant, a retired IDF major-general and Southern District Commander fits the profile.

Kalkalist reports ‘bad blood’ between Galant and Kulanu leader Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon as the latter took much of the Housing Ministry’s authority for his office at the beginning of this term. Persons close to Kulanu report tensions are high between the two and relations have long broken down, stating with confidence there does not be a doubt that Kahlon and Galant are headed for a parting of the ways. In fact, Kalkalist quotes persons inside saying it is already clear that Galant will not appear on the Kulanu ballot in the next elections.

In response to the report, Kahlon’s office states the Finance Minister and Prime Minister have not agreed to any changes in the cabinet appointments. In addition, the two (Galant and Kahlon) work together hand in hand and maintain good working relations. Any changes in the cabinet portfolios given to Kulanu will be made exclusively by Kahlon.
