MDA Providing Non-Jewish Ambulance Crew For Elad In Compliance With A Request From Rabbonim


mdaIn line with a request from the city’s rabbonim, Magen David Adom is providing a non-Jewish ambulance crew for Elad on Shabbosim. MDA Chief Eli Bin explains the EMS organization is complying with the request received from Elad’s Rabbi Grossman Shlita, a move that will minimize the chilul Shabbos involved in providing emergency medical service on Shabbos.

Health Minister Yaakov Litzman was also involved in the request on behalf of the city’s rav. Bin met with Rabbi Grossman in his home along with senior Elad Hatzalah volunteers. Numerous issues pertaining to pikuach nefesh and Shabbos were discussed.

  1. There is nothing wrong with operating an ambulance on Shabbat! I live in an all religious community, and the volunteer medics are on call on Shabbat quite often. They keep their pagers on them and go whenever needed. Pikuach Nefesh doche shabbat. Same reason why I shelled Lebanon on Shabbat in 2006.
