Former Jerusalem Deputy Mayor Simchayof Released From Prison


1Former Jerusalem Mayor (Shas) Eli Simchayof has been released from prison after serving 11 months in jail following his conviction in the Holyland real estate case. He was released on Wednesday, 6 Teves.

Shortly following his release, Simchayof headed to the Sanhedria Cemetery to be mispallel at the tziyun of HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef ZT”L.

When asked if he feels he was treated unfairly, Simchayof stated “I accept the ruling from Shomayim with love and have no complaints with Above”.

In line with the terms of his release, Simchayof will have to report once every other week to a police station and remain under house arrest at home between the hours of 22:00 and 06:00 in the morning.

Simchayof was originally sentenced to 3.5 years in prison but the High Court of Justice reduced the sentence to 18 months and he was released early on good behavior.
