A Nazareth battery manufacturer and importer has been taken into custody for allegedly failing to pay over 1 million shekels in taxes. It is alleged that he submitted a forged tax return to avoid paying taxes, not listing items that he imported and sold for a profit. The investigation was conducted by Israel Tax Authority and Haifa Port Customs agents.
P.T., 41, is in custody after a prolonged undercover investigation in which it was documented that he imported a great deal of batter party towards manufacturing the items locally but he failed to report this on his tax returns. It is pointed out he also owes an estimated NIS 50,000 in import taxes.
The suspect is being released with restrictions after forfeiting his passport to authorities and paying NIS 100,000 in bail.
