Jewish Community activists from NYC and Upstate NY gathered this past Thursday evening� to support Orange County Sheriff Carl DuBois in his bid for reelection. They were joined by�many Sheriffs from various counties including; Sullivan, Green, Putnam, and Rensselaer county. Additionally, law enforcement officials from New Jersey attended the gathering as well.
Professor Harry Reicher, a long time leader and a UN advocate, publicly thanked Sheriff DuBois, and said that�the Sheriff�is an example of how a law enforcement offical deals professionally with all communities, and�shows his extreme sensitivity�to the religious needs the Jewish community.
“Sheriff DuBois has recently been elected as the President of the NYS Sheriff’s Association last April, and has�changed the Sheriffs department around�and brought tremendous respect and dignity to the office”, Rabbi Abe Friedman a Sheriff Chaplain told YWN.
Among other speakers was Sullivan County Sheriff Michael Schiff, who says Sheriff DuBois has been an�example to the sheriffs of other counties in how�to deal with the most sensitive of issues.
A special announcement was made by Officer Michael Essig who is the Vice President of the NYS-FOP which represents over 3500 law enforcement personal throughout NYS with an endorsement�for Sheriff DuBois.
Sheriff DuBois�who has one of the largest counties in the state,�has a diverse community including many hospitals, commercial facilities, and includes the fastest�growing Village in the state, Kiryas Joel.
Sheriff DuBois also took a moment out of the evening to make a special�remembrance of�his longtime Chaplain of the Orange County Sheriff Department, the late Rabbi Morton Friedman who passed away this past March. “Rabbi Friedman was a true leader, a leader that taught me and my staff many cultural and Jewish customs. He will be missed by all, said Sheriff DuBois.
“I am fortunate to continue working with his son�Abe, who continues hes community activism throughout the State of New York.”
